Digital Archive of Singapore Tamil Music

Music.jpg

Indian classical music, especially the Carnatic Music, has been a key component of the classical dance and music scene in Singapore for decades. Yet, there is no documentation of the long musical journey. While lagging behind dance, theatre and literary genres, music continues to be a significant part of the arts landscape in Singapore. This project hopes to bring together past records and materials pertaining to classical, especially classical Tamil music in this country.

As with other digital collections under the umbrella of the Tamil Digital Heritage Group, this project too will serve current needs as well as future ones. It would be an invaluable resource for budding singers and a forum for exchange of ideas and practices in the musical world. Again, it would be freely accessible to anyone anywhere at virtually no cost.

This project was launched in 2018: http://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/arts/website/Contents/DASTM.aspx
